SCHOOL PROFILE (HISTORY):
Jim Bourton Memorial Agricultural Senior High School known for
short as JIBMASS, which began as co-educational day/lodging school was founded
on 11th October 1979. This was the sole initiative of the Logba Youth
Association to promote Agricultural Education. The School was named Logba Agricultural
Secondary School (LASEC)
Jim Bourton Memorial Agricultural Senior High School or LADEC is
located in Logba on the main Accra-Hohoe Eastern Corridor road. The school is
about 45 kilometres from Hohoe in the Volta Region. It occupies an area of 26.17
acres.
The initial school population was thirty students which
comprised twenty boys and ten girls. The school was renamed Jim Bourton
Memorial Agricultural Senior High School after the late Mr. Jim Bourton, a
Canadian University Organization Volunteer, who joined the Teaching staff on
14th April, 1983 and later, on 30th April 1984 became the Headmaster. He met
his untimely death on 18th February 1994 and was buried in front of the
School’s Administration Block.
It was the aspiration of many that the School will be absorb and
run as Government assisted Senior High School, to alleviate the daunting task
of running a second cycke institution privately. God being so goog this dream
came to fruition in January 1992. From the struggles and perseverance of all
who made this dream a reality came the Motto of JIBMASS – Patience and Perseverance
In October 1996 the school was renamed Jim Bourton Memorial
Agricultural Secondary School in appreciation of the food work and sacrifices
of the late Jim Bourton. With the implementation of Ghana’s recent Education
Reforms which began in September 2007, the School was again renamed Jim Bourton
Memorial Agricultural Senior High School.
Jim Bourton Memorial Agricultural Senior High School started a
historic Boarding System on 13th January
2008 with an initial number of five students and a kitchen staff of two women
on the first day. The boarding population increased to 103 students and three
kitchen staff by the end of the second term in which the boarding system was
started. The school population now stands at 759 as at 2019/20 academic year
with fifty-five (55) dedicated and hardworking teaching staff in addition to
three (3) National Service Personnel and thirty-five (35) Non-Teaching Staff
members.
To broaden the scope of learning and access, General arts,
Business Education, Vocational Subjects which include Visual Art and Home
Economics were added to the initial Agricultural Programmes run in the School.
Management is also putting measures in place to further add Technical Programme
by next academic year. Over the years the School registered hundred
percent passes in West African Senior School Certificate Examinations
(WASSCE). In 2012/13 academic year, JIBMASS was adjudged the
overall best performing School in the Afadzato South District. The School
again took the first position during the 63rd Independence
District Quiz Competition in 2020. In sports and games, the School is second to
none at both District and Regional levels, under the leadership of Messrs Mr.
E.K. Asiamah, Mr. Andrew K. A. Abini and Mr. Emmanuel Yao Tenu. The School has
since seen a steady growth in both academic and social life.
Jim Bourton Mem. Agric. Senior High School (JIBMASS) is fast
growing with modern facilities such as a fully furnished 18 unit Classroom
Block, well-equipped ICT Laboratory, state of the art Dining Hall/Assembly Hall
and a source of portable water in the school.
We have struggled over the years to see this happen.
We have persevered in our struggles.
Indeed, the realization of the dream, the aspiration and the
toils of many people has now come to fruition.
Here comes JIBMASS to stay forever.
Arise! Oh Students of JIBMASS,
Arise, arise and shine.
Lift high the flag of your alma mater
And make her great and strong
Say no to laziness but work
Only towards success
With patience and perseverance.
Arise! JIBMASS, success awaits
Remember our path founders and follow their footsteps
Great sons and daughters of Great JIBMASS,
Composed By: SELORM NDAH
